Use Where's My Refund from the Idaho State Tax Commission. Choose SSN or ITIN, then enter the number and the refund amount you expect. Tick the box if it's an amended return. It shows this year's refund and any amended returns you filed this year.
New TAP address. In November 2026 Idaho moves its TAP system, which runs Where's My Refund, to tap.tax.idaho.gov (offline November 6 to 8). The link tax.idaho.gov/refund keeps working; the Tax Commission says the old TAP address redirects to the new one.
How long an Idaho refund takes
| Situation | What the Tax Commission says |
|---|---|
| E-file | About 7 to 8 weeks after you get an acknowledgment |
| Paper return | About 10 to 11 weeks after the Tax Commission receives it |
| First-time filer | Add about 3 weeks. Until then the tool says "not entered in system." |
| You got a letter asking for information | On hold until you reply, then about 6 more weeks |
The tool shows your return's progress through four stages. After the conformity law passed, the Tax Commission said returns filed before March 10, 2026, could expect refunds by the end of May.
Why your Idaho refund is late or smaller
Every Idaho return goes through fraud checks and accuracy checks before a refund is sent. The Tax Commission finds errors on about 25% of returns. It may send you:
- An Identity Verification letter. It asks you to take a short online quiz, send copies of documents, or say you didn't file.
- A PIN letter. It asks you to confirm online whether you, or someone you authorized, filed the return.
- A Request for Information letter for missing details.
- A Tax Computation Change letter explaining changes made to your return.
Reply quickly. A refund can also be taken to pay a debt to the IRS or another state agency. If the tool says your check was mailed a while ago and it never came, contact Taxpayer Services about a reissue.

Idaho and the new federal deductions
Idaho follows the federal deductions for overtime, tips, seniors and car loan interest for 2025 returns. House Bill 559, signed in February 2026, adopted them. Claim them on Form 40, line 18, or Form 43, line 40. If you filed your 2025 Idaho return before these deductions were available, the Tax Commission says you need to file an amended return to claim them (the larger standard deduction is the exception).
Your federal refund is separate
The IRS pays your federal refund on its own schedule. Track it with IRS Where's My Refund, see the week-by-week IRS refund schedule, or estimate your date with the refund date calculator. To see how big your federal refund should be, try the tax refund calculator.
Common questions
How long does an Idaho tax refund take? The Idaho State Tax Commission says about 7 to 8 weeks after you receive an acknowledgment for an e-filed return, and about 10 to 11 weeks after it receives a paper return. First-time filers should add about 3 weeks.
Why does my Idaho refund say not entered in system? If you are filing in Idaho for the first time, it takes about three weeks to enter you into the system. Until then the tool reports your return as not entered in system.
Did Idaho's Where's My Refund address change? Yes. In November 2026 Idaho moves its TAP system, which runs Where's My Refund, to tap.tax.idaho.gov (offline November 6 to 8). The link tax.idaho.gov/refund keeps working; the Tax Commission says the old TAP address redirects to the new one.
Does Idaho follow no tax on tips and overtime? Yes, for 2025. House Bill 559 adopted the federal deductions for qualified tips, overtime and car loan interest and the enhanced senior deduction. If you filed before they were available, you need to amend your Idaho return to claim them.
